Ammanda Seelye-Salzman, USA
Ms. Seelye-Salzman was always drawn to the subject matter of the human form. However, as a mother of two teenage daughters, the issue of body image is more relevant to her then ever. She has witnessed her daughters constantly being bombarded by media and pop culture images stressing perfection and perpetuating sexiest stereotypes. In her work, the artist wishes to emphasize the nude as an imperfect human form. The nude has become a powerful vehicle for addressing themes of intimacy, mortality, beauty and desire. No longer an ideal prototype consumed with fears of cellulite and wrinkles. The nudes in Ms. Seelye-Salzman’s work disputes the conventional ideal of the traditional figure.
