Julieta Schildknecht, Brazil (lives and works in Switzerland)
In this photographic series titled “verygoodreason,” the artist confronts her past and uses art to deal with child molestation. The dolls are no longer playmates that she finds comfort with, rather they are a personification of a painful and dark experience. The artist provides a personal glance at her childhood:
“My childhood was good according to the politically correct standards of a considered upper class family in a South American country. Very normal on the outside and very difficult behind the stage. I grew up within a confusing structure based on the values of money, violence and the mixed feeling of religious forgiveness. I have learned to understand my parents even though facts would make me act the opposite.
My work is a result of what my soul experienced, experiences and will experience. My photos are images reproduced in film exposed to light and when they become public I hope that this same light may clarify to many people what is happening in our society and inspire them to take steps and put some thoughts into perspective…”
